418th Night Fighter Squadron — WWII, Second Version, No Background

Strip away everything that isn’t the insignia. No background, no frame, no border — just the 418th Night Fighter Squadron’s alternate WWII artwork floating directly on the fabric, as clean and uncompromising as the unit it represents.

This is the most graphic-forward version in the 418th collection. The insignia stands entirely on its own terms, with nothing behind it to define its edges or soften its presence. For collectors who appreciate design as much as history, and for veterans who want the artwork to speak without any visual noise, this is the version that delivers.

Why This Shirt

  • No background treatment — the 418th’s 2nd version insignia presented without any background element; the artwork floats free on the fabric
  • Maximum graphic impact — the most visually bold presentation in the 418th series, with nothing competing for attention
  • Collector’s edition — the sixth and most design-forward variant in the 418th Night Fighter Squadron collection
  • WWII Army Air Corps heritage — honoring the Pacific Theater night combat aviators who flew the P-61 Black Widow
  • Classic cut — a timeless silhouette that lets the floating insignia command the entire garment
  • 5 colorways — Black, White, Navy, Military Green, and Tan; the shirt color becomes the background, making each colorway a genuinely different visual experience
  • Durable construction — built to preserve the insignia through years of wear and washing

The 418th Night Fighter Squadron

Activated in 1943 and deployed to the Pacific, the 418th flew the Northrop P-61 Black Widow — the first American aircraft purpose-built for night combat. Operating from New Guinea and the Philippines, the squadron accumulated confirmed aerial kills against Japanese aircraft under conditions that demanded extraordinary skill, precision, and composure. Their insignia has been interpreted across six versions in this collection — and in this one, it stands most nakedly for what it is: a mark of distinction earned in the dark, over the Pacific, by men who never needed a background to make their presence known.

Available in X-Large. Part of the Military Insignia Products WWII heritage collection.
