The 2nd Range Operations Squadron (2 ROPS) is the United States Space Force unit responsible for planning, directing, and executing launch range operations on the Eastern Range — the vast network of tracking stations, radar systems, telemetry assets, and safety infrastructure that stretches from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida across the Atlantic Ocean and supports every launch from America’s premier spaceport. When a rocket lifts off from Cape Canaveral — whether it carries a national security satellite, a commercial payload, or a crewed spacecraft — the Guardians of 2 ROPS are the ones who ensure the range is safe, the tracking systems are operational, and the launch can proceed. They coordinate with the Federal Aviation Administration, the Space Force, NASA, and commercial launch providers to manage one of the busiest and most complex launch ranges in the world, processing dozens of launches per year from a facility that has been the gateway to space for American rockets since the dawn of the Space Age. From the first Atlas and Titan missiles of the 1950s to the Falcon 9s and Vulcan Centaurs of today, the Eastern Range has been America’s front door to space — and 2 ROPS is the unit that keeps that door open.
